IOIBD Publications committee

Members
Corey Siegel (Chair),
Anne Griffiths, Gil Kaplan, James Lewis, Gerassimos Mantzaris, Jürgen Schoelmerich
+ Ad hoc members to help with higher expected volume or specific expertise

Overall Strategy
To have a consistent review process for all material/abstracts/publications that would like to be associated with IOIBD.

Specific approach for manuscripts arising from IOIBD collaborative projects

  • Any IOIBD member who conceives an idea to develop material/abstract/manuscript that they want associated with IOIBD should send a brief proposal (1/2 page maximum) to the Chair of the Executive Committee for approval before they develop a draft of their work
  • The manuscript ownership will always lie with the authors
  • Authorship will be determined by the lead and senior author
  • To be included as an author, all must meet standard authorship criteria
  • The manuscript author list will include “on behalf of the International Organization for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases” after the senior author, and/or the manuscript title will include IOIBD.
  • When made possible by the journal, IOIBD members who contributed to the project but do not qualify as authors (e.g., expert panels) will be listed in the authorship banner (listed in PubMed)
  • It is OK to include non-IOIBD co-authors, but in general the majority of authors should be IOIBD members
  • In the acknowledgments, there will be a notation for authors who are members of IOIBD
  • The review committee will review the material/abstract/manuscript (guidance below) and make a recommendation to the IOIBD executive committee for final approval
  • Once approved by the executive committee, the authors will submit abstracts/manuscripts on their own

Guidance for reviewers of material/abstract/manuscript arising from IOIBD collaborative projects

  1. Is it clear and without any glaring issues?
  2. Feel free to comment on content and make recommendations to the authors to improve the manuscript. However, detailed editing as you would as a co-author or journal reviewer is not required.
  3. Is it appropriate to represent IOIBD and have the IOIBD “stamp of approval”?
  4. Send comments to the Chair of the Publications Committee who will send collective comments to the authors and make a recommendation to the executive committee

For individual research projects that have been funded by IOIBD but not an IOIBD collaborative project, these will not be reviewed by the committee but the authors will acknowledge funding in the manuscript.
